Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of Appomattox County Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its material, or submitting a query through a search tool signifies agreement with all terms below. Do not continue using the website if you do not accept them.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website is not connected with a local, state, or federal agency. It and its advertising partners do not provide services for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or other decisions regulated by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The material identifies criminal-record resources in Appomattox County and Virginia. We are neither a consumer reporting agency nor a private investigation service.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site with no government affiliation. It does not keep official criminal files, retrieve records, perform an official check, or submit documents for a visitor.

Its role is to identify the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office, local criminal courts, Virginia Department of State Police, and Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry as separate official custodians. Virginia FOIA, § 2.2-3700 et seq., governs qualifying public-agency records, while criminal-history dissemination is restricted by Virginia Code § 19.2-389. Outside tools may also be linked for independent research.

2. Rules for Using This Site

By using the website, you agree not to:

  • Use automated scraping, bot, or harvesting tools against the pages
  • Violate a federal, Virginia, or local law
  • Threaten, stalk, or harass a person with information found here
  • Use the content for lending, hiring, housing, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or account
  • Disrupt performance or interfere with another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

Information obtained here or through a linked service may not be used to intimidate, threaten, stalk, harass, or discriminate against anyone. Such conduct may also violate criminal law. The rule is especially important for the Virginia Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. Virginia limits misuse of registry information and may impose criminal penalties for acts against a listed person. Registry access supports community safety, not vigilantism or discriminatory treatment.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not prepare consumer, credit, or background reports. Our advertising partners and this site do not offer tools designed to evaluate applicants, insurance risk, rental requests, or credit. Data found here or through a linked tool may not be used to:

  • Set an insurance premium or judge credit eligibility
  • Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
  • Make a hiring or termination decision
  • Determine eligibility for a license, permit, or public program
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

A legally permitted check for a regulated purpose must be obtained through the Virginia Department of State Police or another provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

The website provides general information, not legal advice. Only a qualified Virginia lawyer can advise how a warrant, charge, conviction, sealing rule, or expungement law affects a specific situation.

6. No Warranties

All content and functions are supplied "as is." We make no promise that:

  • A partner's search result will be accurate or complete
  • Every detail will remain current, complete, and correct
  • The service will always be available without interruption
  • The pages will contain no error, defect, or security vulnerability

Criminal files change when charges are filed, amended, dismissed, sealed, or expunged. Updates can create unavoidable gaps. No statement here is an official representation from the Appomattox County Sheriff, a court, or any Virginia agency.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links can lead to government portals, courts, law-enforcement pages, legal resources, and outside search providers. We do not manage those destinations and accept no responsibility for their availability, prices, content, or data practices. Read the destination's terms before using it.

8. Intellectual Property

Appomattox County Criminal History or its content partners own the website's text, graphics, logos, and code. Written authorization is required to reproduce, distribute, alter, or create derivative works from that material.

9. Limits on Our Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim liability for losses arising from use of the website, its content, or a linked service, including reliance on information found through them.

10. Indemnification

You agree to defend and hold us harmless from a claim, demand, or action caused by your use of the website or violation of these terms, including related costs and legal fees.

11. Governing Law

Virginia law governs these terms. Any dispute arising from use of the website must be brought in a court located in Virginia.

12. Changes to These Terms

These terms may be revised at any time. A revision becomes effective when the updated version is posted here.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be restricted or ended at any time, for any reason, without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining terms continue in force. The affected provision will be modified only as far as necessary to make it enforceable.

15. Questions

Questions about these conditions may be submitted through the Contact page.
